Fenugreek the fox went roaming one day to strange new lands so far away, new smells to smell, new tastes to taste, how he loved to wander from place to place.
He came upon a fast flowing stream that ran right through a glade of green, trees and flowers all around and lots of new and exciting sounds.
Birds that he had never heard, trickling water, “how superb! I think I might just take a nap” but then he heard a sudden SNAP!
He quickly turned around to see a tiny fox “he looks like me!”.
The fox was crashing down the lynn and letting out an awful din. He pulled him out and licked him dry “oh goodness me oh my oh my!.”
“Hello my small and frightened friend, you look like you’re at your wits end.”
The fox said “sir I’m all alone, and miles and miles and miles from home. I saw a fish, and I caught him! But I forgot that I can't swim…”
“And so the river brought you here, no bother friend, nothing to fear. Climb on back and we’ll be off.
“I really hope my mums not cross…”
And so the two went on their way, for miles and miles through night and day until at last they both arrived “please stay for tea!”. The small fox cried.
“Mum I’d like for you to meet my brave new friend called Fenugreek, if not for him I’d still be lost.”
“If that is all I must be off”.
“No please oh please do stay a while, you brave young fox you saved my child, now stay and eat its only right, even if just for tonight.”
So Fenugreek sat with them both, he ate some food and told some jokes, and when the morning came and went Fenugreek was still in bed!
“You know you do not have to leave, there always has been room for three, you’ve said how much you love to roam but have you ever had a home?”
“Well no I guess I never have… I think that I would quite like that, a place that I could call my own… “
“It's hard to live life all alone.”
“I’ll maybe stay for one more day, then I think I’ll be on my way.”
But the years they passed both warm and cold and now Fenugreek is mighty old.
With little foxes all around and paw prints all across the ground, his small and special friend all grown, off on adventures of his own.
With much to see, and smell and hear, to touch and taste all through the year.
But he never would forget the day, that Fenugreek The Fox decided to stay.
