You Lied

You told me I would be safe with you, you lied.
You may not have meant to, but that doesn't matter to my trust, which sits in many sharp shards like the broken bottle on my kitchen floor.
Cutting my hands each and every time I try to pick up the pieces.
You offered something you never could provide, I was a convenient distraction, a way to pass the time.
But you, you were my lifeline, when you said that you’d always be there I believed you.
When you told me I should stay, I believed you.
You begged to see the man behind the mask just to act like I’d deceived you.
What a way to make sure someone never trusts again, never reaches out for help or consolation from a friend.
You made me feel so dirty, you told me to take off my worn and battered armour so that you might wash me and make me clean.
But when I lowered my helmet to the ground you stared back in silence, unloving, detached
You looked at my scars and found them grotesque and unsightly, from the moment that you saw my face you wanted so to hide me.
I will never forget that it was you that begged me to stay, just so you could be the one to turn around and walk away, after leaving me to fester in a cold and empty room, is this the kind of thing a real friend is meant to do?
Is this the love you said that you would show me at the start, a type of love that breaks a man's already broken heart…
I will wash my own skin, I will treat my own wounds, and I will do so in a place far far away from you.
